ePKhas: Learning Objects Repository for Special Education

WELCOME to ePKhas, an open-access online multimedia learning objects repository to support the teaching and learning processes of students with special needs in Malaysia. ePKhas was developed based on the rationale of harnessing the power of technology to advance theory and practice of instruction in special education. ePKhas stores and disseminates three main digital learning resources:

  • lesson plans
  • multimedia learning objects
  • short articles

Through encouraging the development of multimedia learning resources that correspond to the cognitive capability of students with special needs and that are relevant to our Malaysian language and contexts, it is hoped that sustainable sharing of knowledge and skills via multimedia learning objects across different organizations serving students with special needs throughout Malaysia can be achieved.

The ePKhas repository is developed to serve five main functions:  management and retrieval of digital resources, creation and sharing of digital resources, registration and management of users, research and evaluation, and collaborative discussion among members.

The repository is non-commercial and is open to all registered members. There are two kinds of membership  in ePKhas. Ordinary members have full access to published pedagogical content and multimedia learning objects in the repository. Ordinary members can apply to upgrade their membership to become contributing members. Contributing members are allowed access to the lesson builder to develop their lesson plans and to compile their multimedia learning objects.

The digital resources in ePkhas are mostly resources developed by students in the B.Ed (Special Education) program. With ePkhas, it is hoped that their resources can be reused for sustainable learning.

We hope that special education teachers will find the resources stored in this repository useful and we hope that in time to come special education teachers will create their own resources to be shared with their counterparts throughout Malaysia.
